DARRYL KNIGHT The Standard

BROCK: At a Special Council meeting on Friday, June 28, council awarded the Project Manager contract for the Sunderland Arena project to CBRE. The decision was formalized with the passing of a motion based on a report from township. This report outlined the timelines for the arena project and detailed the tender process for selecting a Project Manager.

The contract awarded to CBRE is valued at $306,966.17, excluding HST. Before the contract is finalized, CBRE must provide all necessary insurance documents as specified in the tender.

Additionally, the Council has directed staff to ensure that ice is installed in the Sunderland Memorial Arena for the 2024/2025 winter season, guaranteeing that the arena remains operational during the initial phases of the project.

The construction phase of the project is set to commence in the spring of 2025. CBRE, as the Project Manager, will collaborate closely with the Descope and Design Committee to establish new timelines for the project's completion. Despite the adjustments, the Council remains confident that the project will meet the 2027 deadline to stay eligible for the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP) grant.

The Council emphasized the importance of keeping all user groups and stakeholders informed about the project's progress. Township staff added that further updates on the project's timelines and developments will be provided shortly.
