Blackstock news

by Janet Van Camp

Attendance at the Annual Decoration Day Service at Cartwright Union Cemetery was excellent, with many families gathering to honour their loved ones. The Cemetery Board and John Mantle are to be commended for the beautiful cemetery we have in this community.

Our very own Peter Barber and Sharon Sweeney recently returned from a trip to West Virginia, where they attended a Car Show. We're thrilled to share Peter's 1974 Pontiac convertible not only made the trip but also brought home a prestigious Top 25 Trophy. Congratulations, Peter, on this outstanding achievement!Ellen Martyn and Janet Van Camp enjoyed a day trip to Toronto with lunch and a wander through various neighbourhoods as the highlights.

The community has rallied around two families who lost their homes on Old Scugog Street this past week. Thank you to everyone who made donations and offered assistance.

The annual Blackstock Truck and Tractor Pull is on Friday, July 5th, starting at 7:30 p.m. and again on Saturday, July 6th, with a start time of 7 p.m. Volunteers are needed on the gates and in the beer tent.

Please contact Janet Van Camp at 905-986-0693 or email jrvc78@hotmail.com if you would like to help and also if you have any news items for this column.
