I am sorry to announce the recent passing of Joan Grove. Joan is survived by her son Doug Grove and wife Lorrie, her son Jeff Grove, and her daughter Frances Grove Hurst and husband Ken. For many years, Joan and her husband Glenn lived on the farm just south of the Shirley Woods and will be remembered by many as school bus drivers.
Many from the Blackstock Area attended the 2024 Celebrate Agriculture Gala held at the Royal Ashburn Golf Club on Friday, October 25th, hosted by Durham Farm Connections. The fun-filled evening consisted of a delicious dinner, awards, auctions and live music.
Cartwright Central Public School will be offering poinsettias for sale as a fundraiser for school activities. More information to follow in next week’s News.
Coffee drop-in at Blackstock-Nestleton United Church will be next Wednesday, November 13th, from 10-11:30. Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy conversation, coffee and treats.
The Remembrance Day Service will be held at the Blackstock Recreation Centre on Monday, November 11th, beginning at 10:30 a.m., then proceeding to the Cenotaph for the laying of the wreaths at 11 a.m. Attendees are invited back to the Recreation Centre for a social time and lunch, generously hosted by the Blackstock Lions Club.
The Blackstock-Nestleton United Church Talent Auction is quickly approaching. Be sure to come out on Friday, November 15th, to bid on some great items. Preview is at 7 p.m., with the auction starting at 7:30 p.m.
Looking for that special Christmas gift, or maybe you want to update your Christmas decorations? Sunday, November 24th, is the annual Holiday Craft Sale, sponsored by the Blackstock Agricultural Society, at the Blackstock Recreation Centre from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Admission is $2, and donations to Operation Scugog Food Bank will also be gratefully accepted. Lunch is available.
