MARILYN PEARCE Special to The Standard
SCUGOG: Walking through the doors, of the annual Port Perry Antique and Nostalgia Show, you soon realize how popular this event is with young and old. Once again we are back with the 23rd edition of the show at the Scugog Community Centre, next to the arena in Port Perry. Year after year, this show has attracted over 25 quality dealers from around Ontario, featuring an eclectic mix of antiques, nostalgic treasures and vintage items. This welcome break from winter provides great entertainment, historical education and great one of a kind items, and is guaranteed to make you nostalgic for the simpler times of the past. The show includes jewelry, sterling silver, coins, furniture, postcards and paper, books, toys, china, glass, records, and more. Show convenor Marilyn Pearce is pleased to welcome back many of the long-standing vendors from last year and a few new additions. The Lake Scugog Historical Society (LSHS) is teaming up with local collectors and our Museum to feature an exhibit on the “Steamboats of Scugog.” Last year, we featured the Nip N’ Tuck Railway and many of our visitors told us how much they enjoyed learning about that aspect of Scugog’s past and so we have put out the call to the community to help us highlight our steam boating history. There will be models on display along with artifacts and archival pieces. For over two decades, year after year this show has helped to shake off the winter blues and jump start the Antique Season, and this year is no different. Proceeds from this show support the Lake Scugog Historical Society programs, so be sure to visit our kiosk and pick up our most recent newsletter and maybe join our organization. Local history books will be available. The show will run on Saturday, February 1st and Sunday, February 2nd from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Scugog Community Recreation Centre, 1655 Reach Street in Port Perry. The admission is $5 and is valid for both days. During the month of January our LSHS Facebook site will feature some of the items the dealers will bring to this years show.
